Great teeth and gum care begins at home. Brushing and flossing on a daily basis is the easiest way to take care of your teeth and gums. Good oral hygiene also minimizes the risk of periodontal disease and tooth decay as you get older. Regular dental exams and fluoride treatments are also key to successfully preventing such issues.

Periodontal disease is a chronic infection of the gums and bone surrounding the teeth. This severe infection happens when bacterial plaque causes inflammation. The bacterial infection and inflammation begin to destroy the gum, bun, and tissue. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

What are possible risk factors? Family history, smoking, stress, hormonal changes, diabetes, and poor oral health.

We suggest using a soft toothbrush with a small head. Medium and hard brushes tend to cause irritation and can contribute to recession of the gums. We can demonstrate the best method for brushing. A motorized toothbrush is a favorable option as well.
